Pyroclasts are very geologically specific and so that’s why colors are more prevalent in certain areas. Obsidian is glass but it’s “dirty” glass, not 100% silicate composition and the color is determined by compounds mixed in with the volcanic pyroclast that formed them. That’s with all “colored” obsidians, they look black until you hold them up to the light. The only way to see the green is to hold it up to light and look at the thinnest edges where light penetrates through the most. The only green outcroppings of obsidian I know of are in Kenya and Central America, and they’re an archaeological site so taking material from it isn’t common.
